Karen Larrivee
I grew up in western North Dakota and I spent part of every childhood summer at the cabin my Dad built on Lake Sakakawea. Between there and frequent trips to the Badlands I learned to love the special offerings of nature that western North Dakota grants its people.
Thanks to my musical and artistic parents who gave me so many opportunities to develop my love for dance and music, I pursued those passions into adulthood. Being in the first production of The Nutcracker with Northern Plains Dance and being able to share that with my son was truly a wonder. Performing with the Civic Chorus for the past 30 years has given me the chance to meet fellow musicians, expand my musical knowledge, and sing works both big and small.
The arts belong to all people. They are always evolving and as our society changes, so must their expression. In a world that is seems to thrive being plugged into a constant stream of noise, a chance to decompress from all that; reflect, rejuvenate, and reconnect by way of an ancient yet ever new source is one I am most excited to help create.
